Start Cosmos seeds directly outdoors in the spring and enjoy! No flower adds more enchantment to the flower garden than these tall annuals with fine, lacy, fern-like foliage and large pure white blooms. They create a lovely back-drop for the entire garden. They are very easy to grow from flower seed, and a landscape can easily be transformed into a lovely display of soft colors. The extra-large, long-lasting white Cosmos flowers are excellent for cutting as well. Cut them early in the morning just as the petals begin to unfold. The flower will continue to open in the vase and last for 7 - 10 days.
Also known as Mexican Asters, these flowers are native to Mexico. They will provide the best blooms with moderate amounts of water. Do not over fertilize the plants as this will decrease the amount of blooms. Butterflies and bees are very attracted to the large blooms, and they also will self-sow their own seeds for a new display next season.
Cosmos from flower seeds: Directly sow seeds into prepared soil after danger of frost has passed. Scatter the flower seeds and lightly rake the soil over at a depth of 1/16 inch. Keep the area moist until germination.
