Prickly Pear, also known as Indian Fig Opuntia or Barberry Fig, is an heirloom cactus with a wealth of uses. This versatile plant is celebrated not only for its striking appearance but also for its edible and medicinal qualities. The Prickly Pear can be a remarkable addition to any garden, providing beautiful yellow flowers and delicious fruits that are high in vitamins and minerals. Its pads are also edible when cooked and have been used traditionally for their medicinal properties.

Ideal as a garden gift, the Prickly Pear is perfect for those interested in edible landscaping or incorporating unique, drought-tolerant plants into their outdoor space. Easy to grow and requiring minimal maintenance, it thrives in hot, arid environments but can also be cultivated in containers where climates are cooler, making it a versatile choice for gardeners everywhere.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Start Cactus seeds indoors in fast-draining cacti soil. Soak in hot tap water, then let stand in water for 2 days. Floating seeds will germinate. After seed prep, sow seeds 1/8" deep, tamp soil and keep moist until germinated.

*While the germination rate is high (91%), germination times can be very irregular. It is best practice to try to grow several plants in order to get some to sprout in a short timeframe.
