Beautyberry, American (Callicarpa americana) - 30 Seeds

$2.99 $5.99
Beautiful American Beautyberry shrubs are native to the southeastern United States, but are now grown across most of the United States. They have long, arching branches that bear large, light green leaves. Clusters of little flowers turn into green and then brilliant purple berries. Each berry contains three to four seeds. The juicy berries are a source of food for more than 40 species of songbird, including the American robin, mockingbirds, and cardinals. Raw fresh beautyberries have a very unique flavor that's hard to compare to anything else: they're mildly sweet and have spicy notes somewhat similar to Asian five spice. While most don't eat the berries raw, they can be used to make an amazing jam and beautyberry pie. It has also been used as a medicinal plant for centuries.
